Tube Scope Mounting: Complete Guide to Types and Installation

Dec 9 2024

During hunting, it is essential to mount your sight onto the Picatinny rail of your firearm. Different types of scopes require different types of clamps for secure attachment. In this article, we will provide a comprehensive guide on the types of clamps for compact digital scopes and the steps to properly install them.

Picatinny Rail

1. Definition

The Picatinny rail is a standardized rail system primarily used on firearms to allow the attachment of various accessories. It is usually positioned on the top, bottom, or side of the firearm.

2. Specifications

MIL-STD-1913: A U.S. military standard, formally known as Military Standard 1913, commonly referred to as the Picatinny Rail Standard.

Specification

Measurement/Description

Rail Width

≈ 0.835 inches (21.2 mm)

Slot Depth

≈ 0.118 inches (3.0 mm)

Slot Width

≈ 0.206 inches (5.23 mm)

Center-to-Center Slot Spacing

≈ 0.394 inches (10.0 mm)

Rail Height - from rail base to rail top

≈ 0.278 inches (7.06 mm)

Rail Angle - the sides of the slots

90°

Note: PARD's mount is compatible with MIL-STD-1913 rails.

3. Impact of Picatinny Rail Length on Mount

(1) Installation Space

The rail length determines the possible mounting range for the mount. A shorter rail may limit ideal mounting positions, affecting the angle and placement of the device. A longer rail provides more options, allowing users to adjust the mount position for optimal stability and shooting posture.

(2) Adjustment Flexibility

A longer rail allows for easier position adjustments of the mount. Users can freely adjust the front-back position based on shooting posture, firearm balance, and required stability for an improved shooting experience. A shorter rail limits adjustment space and may require compromises within a restricted area.

4. Functions

(1) Accessory Connection: The Picatinny rail allows the mounting of various sights or accessories, such as scopes, scopes, and flashlights.

(2) Standardized Design: The standardized design of the Picatinny rail ensures high versatility and compatibility with accessories from different manufacturers.

(3) Enhanced Stability: Securing the scope firmly on the Picatinny rail helps ensure it remains stable during shooting, unaffected by recoil, thereby improving shooting accuracy.

A Ring-shaped Mount

1. Definition

A ring-shaped mount for installing and securing tubular scopes, designed for attachment to Picatinny rails. (Size: D=30mm)

Positioning Pins: Positioning pins are fasteners used for precise positioning and securing of mechanical parts, ensuring accurate relative positioning during assembly and preventing misalignment or movement.

Ring-shaped Mount and Picatinny rail connection

2. Types

  • Standard Ring-shaped Mount

(1) Included in the package

(2) Two mounts: one with a positioning pin and one without.

(3) No specific requirement for the position on the scope; either mount can be placed at the front or rear.

(4) If a downward tilt angle for the scope is required, the mount near the eyepiece should be elevated manually.

  •  Quick Detach Ring-shaped Mount (MT5): Requires separate purchase.

Common Features:

Comp atible with tube-shaped scopes, such as DS/TD/Pantera/Night Stalker Series.

Note:

The PARD tube-shaped scope has a front diameter of D=30mm and a rear diameter of D=30.2mm.

Both can be fitted to the ring-shaped mount by adjusting the mount screws to modify the inner diameter of the mounts accordingly.

Standard Ring-shaped Mount:

Requires screw tightening each time when the scope is mounted on the Picatinny rail.

Quick Detach Ring-shaped Mount:

Once the scope is connected to the quick-detach ring-shaped mount, it can be attached to or removed from the Picatinny rail with a simple flip of the lever, completing the process in just one second for maximum convenience.

Installation Instructions(e.g:Night Stalker 4k)

(1) Prepare the screws, Allen wrench, ring-shaped mount, and Night Stalker scope device (Tube-shaped scope).

(2) Tighten the screws with the Allen wrench to securely attach the mount to the scope.

(3)  Install the ring-shaped mount and scope as a whole onto the Picatinny rail of the firegun.

(4) Tighten the screws on the side of the ring-shaped mount to securely fix it to the Picatinny rail.
